Tournament Structure

There will be three separate divisions - novice, intermediate and experienced.

Division 1 (intermediate level)

A straight up 64 team single elimination tournament. Teams in this division are mostly players from the same high school. Lose one game and you can't win the tournament, but you will play five games no matter the outcome of any of your games. The two finalists will play a sixth game to determine the champion of this division.

Division 2 (novice level)

the tournament structure will depend on the number of teams and the number of fields available. This may vary from year to year. This division is for inexperienced teams or teams that are young and/or in a rebuilding phase of development. Teams new to the tournament may also be placed in this division in order to earn their way into division 1 or division 3 the following year.

Division 3 (experienced level)

32 teams will be invited to play in this division by the Turkeyshoot tournament staff. Most teams in this division are club teams (from Canada or the U.S.), or "all-star" teams with players coming from several different high schools. Once again all teams will play a minimum of five games.

All teams play 5 games - 10am, 11am, noon, 1:30pm and 2:30pm. Extra time is given between games 3 and 4 so teams can move to their 4th round game, which in most cases is at a different location than the first 3 games. It also gives the players time to get a bite to eat. The last round of games should end by 3:15pm. Championship games will start at 3:45pm. A brief awards ceremony will take place afterward for both teams playing in the championship game. Trophies, awards and presentation of the winning team's players will occur at this time.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE:

On Sunday, all varsity teams will have every participating player's stick checked by an official prior to the first game of the tournament. Sticks that do not meet NCAA lacrosse standards (6 1/2" width across the top of the head of the stick, ball cannot be below the bottom edge of the sidewalls, ball must roll across the bridge and out of the pocket when tipped forward, 40"-42" length or 52" - 72" length, etc) will be thrown out of the tournament.

A few teams last year brought more than the 15 players/team roster limit. Teams that do so run the risk of forfeiting the game. Only the players listed on their roster may play. Teams cannot replace an injured player with a non-rostered player. The idea of having a limit of 15 players per team is to make it a more even playing field for the smaller schools that play in the tournament.

Finally, in an effort to help players get recruited, and to assist college coaches in their recruiting efforts, we have created a database into which players can enter their own personal, academic and athletic information. Any college coach can access this database to look at players' information. All they need to do is email the Turkeyshoot to get a user name and password, and every player that submits a profile will be available for them to peruse. The cost will be $10 per player to submit a profile. There is no cost to college coaches to access the data. Just click on the Player Profile button along the left panel to access this service.
