Tournament Rules

RULES AND REGULATIONS

  1. For 10 v 10 games, all rules for New York State high school and modified boys lacrosse apply (except body checking - see #3 below).
  2. ROSTER SIZE: unlimited
  3. Players must play the ball at all times. Body checking an opponent to the ground will be assessed a one minute penalty for unnecessary roughness. The Turkeyshoot Tournament showcases lacrosse skills and talents associated with using a lacrosse stick. We also recognize that this tournament is an out-of-season competition (in fact many players are, or will be, involved in an interscholastic winter sport) and we wish to keep the safety of all players at the forefront.
  4. Each team must have an adult coach (21 years of age or older) who will be in charge of team discipline and act as the team's representative.
  5. For 7 v 7 games: Onside is in effect - 2 players on offense and 3 on defense at all times.
  6. Penalties are called and served as they are in a regular field lacrosse. The referee releases penalized players when their serve time has expired. Penalty time does not start until the penalized player takes a knee, out of bounds, at the midline, on the bench side of the field.
  7. A game ending tied is decided by a sudden-death overtime, which begins immediately after regulation time with a faceoff.
  8. For 7 v 7 games: Each period begins with a faceoff. Wing middies must be positioned to the left of their faceoff man, at the intersection of the sideline and the midline. Defensemen and attackmen must remain behind the goal line extended until the referees signal possession. The goalie must remain in the crease area until possession is signaled.
  9. For 7 v 7 games: After a goal is scored the ball is awarded to the scored upon goalie who puts the ball in play from his crease area. A referee must whistle to indicate play has recommenced. FOR JUNIOR TURKEYSHOOT (grades 1-8) - if a team falls behind by 6 or more goals, they are awarded the ball at midfield after they've been scored upon.
  10. For 7 v 7 games: All player substitutions are on the fly. Players must touch sticks at the intersection of the midline and the sideline before entering the field of play. FOR JUNIOR TURKEYSHOOT, wholesale substitutions may be made on a deadball situation.
  11. Each team is allotted one timeout per half. Timeouts are one minute long. No TO in OT.
  12. Team members must wear matching jerseys or tank tops which are numbered (8" numerals or larger).
  13. For 7 v 7 games: Maximum of three longsticks on the field at a time.
  14. Stick Regulations for Varsity: BOX STICKS ARE ILLEGAL. All stick heads and handles must meet NCAA regulations (40-42 INCHES LONG OR 52-72 INCHES LONG; HEAD MUST BE 6 1/2 INCHES WIDE ACROSS THE TOP, BALL MAY NOT REST IN POCKET BELOW THE BOTTOM EDGE OF THE HEAD WHEN STICK IS HELD PARALLEL TO GROUND, ETC). All varsity teams will have every participating player's stick checked by an official prior to the first game of the tournament. Sticks that do not meet NCAA lacrosse standards will be thrown out of the tournament.
  15. Junior Turkeyshoot: players in grades 1-6 can use sticks 34 inches in length. Grades 7-10 must use a stick 40 inches long up to 72 inches.
  16. ANY PLAYERS OR COACHES INVOLVED IN A FIGHT WILL BE EXPELLED FROM THE TOURNAMENT. No second chances. The Turkeyshoot has ZERO tolerance for fighting.
  17. Flagrant fouls: 1st offense - expulsion from game; 2nd offense (occuring anytime during tournament after first offense) - expulsion from tournament. The certified referee will be the sole determinant as the whether a foul is flagrant or not.
  18. For 7 v 7 games: in flagdown situation for a PERSONAL foul, if the offended team scores, they receive the ball at midfield and have a manup situation for the duration of the penalty.
